Too many children are scared. Their fears relate to being hurt, isolated, ostracized, humiliated and terrorized at the hands of their peers. These children are often victimized on several levels. They fear reprisal if they tell anyone about the bullying. They worry that adults may make the situation worse by ‘publicly’ punishing the bully, and they dread hearing words such as “manage it yourself.. walk away from it.. be strong”.
The aim of the Ottawa Anti-Bullying Coalition is to build a safer community especially for children and youth, by increasing awareness, education and information sharing about bullying. The Goals are to:
- Raise awareness: To increase awareness of the nature, extent and impact of bullying in our community.
- Educate: To advocate for the development, evaluation and sharing of skills and resources to address bullying.
- Coordinate a Community Collaboration: To facilitate change amongst all levels of our community through recognition, ownership and responsibility for bullying.
The Ottawa Anti Bullying Coalition has hosted in collaboration with CAYFO several anti-bullying and victimization conferences. You can see the current conference being held here.
General Membership of the Coalition: Membership represents a cross-section of the Ottawa community.
